Ask any Canadian what their favourite food is and poutine would be high on that list! While traditionally made of fries, gravy and cheese curds, Vancouver has some mouth-watering variations of that recipe injecting some west-coast flavour into a traditional Canadian dish. Here are our current favourite places to savour poutine over Happy Hour.

  • 1.

The Cascade Room 616 Main Street

Located by what was once Brewery Creek, where the original Vancouver Brewery brewed their flagship brew, “Cascade – The Beer Without Peer”, the Cascade Room offers a $8 – Roast Beef Poutine (Rosemary Gravy, Roast Trimmings, Kennebec Chips and Squeaky Cheese). We also highly recommend adding the Double Smoked Bacon for $3. This dish, along with their British Pub inspired menu, is available during their daily Happy Hour from 3-6pm which also includes $5 – 20oz Main Street beers. We suggest poutine and beer!

  • 2.

    GLOWBAL 590 West Georgia Street

Offering stripped down North American cuisine, GLOWBAL, the flagship restaurant of the Glowbal Restaurant Group, has a daily Cocktail Hour menu from 2:30-5:30pm. Accompany your $9.95 – Short Rib Poutine Appetizer of Maple Gravy, Truffle Aioli and Cheese Curds with either the $5 – Feature Beer, a $5 – Glass of Wine or a $5 – Highball. Is it possible for this Happy Hour to go wrong?

  • 3.

Rodney’s Oyster House 52 Powell Street (Gastown)

Rodney’s Oyster House has been serving delicious seafood since 1998. The Gastown location opened its doors in 2012. Famous for the $1.50 Happy Hour Oysters (3-6pm Monday to Saturday, 4.30-11pm Sunday) why not try the Lobster Poutine for $16.95. Available Monday to Saturday from 3-11pm and Sunday from 4.30-11pm.

  • 4.

The Flying Pig 1168 Hamilton Street (Yaletown), 102 Water Street (Gastown), and 127 West 2nd Avenue (Olympic Village)

This “noveau Canadian Bistro” offers a simple, seasonally inspired menu with fresh local ingredients at great value and excellent service. While here make sure you try the $7.50 – Classic Poutine, available along with a whole selection of appies during the ‘Appy Hour’ which runs 3-6pm Monday to Friday and 4-6pm on the weekends. Check out their website (or the brewhound app) for full details, but please note that food options may vary by location.

YEW seafood + bar 791 West Georgia Street

This up-scale lounge, part of the Four Seasons Hotel, is a great place to enjoy a cocktail and culinary dishes that would be appreciated by any foodie. Enjoy the $10 YEW Poutine, Kennebec Fries, Emma Farm Cheese Curd and Lobster Bisque as part of this exciting Reverse Happy Hour which runs every night from 8-11pm. YEW have specially paired each Reverse Happy Hour dish (5 in total) with a specific cocktail so why not try the $10 Careyeros Cocktail which has both Tamarind and Turmeric (yes Turmeric!) to accompany your YEW Poutine.
